WEEK #1 SEWING FOUNDATION (Mon. 6/3 - Fri. 6/7)
MON. 6/3 9AM-12PM TOTE BAG, ORGANIZER & POUCH
Welcome to the first day of sewing & fashion camp! We will go over introductory machine functions, seams, supplies, how to use a scissor & more. Don’t worry if you’ve never sewn before or need a review, this is the perfect camp to practice & make mistakes. It’s the best way to learn! Campers will sew a Tote Bag to store their future projects, fabric, supplies & more. Bonus: sew an organizer and/or smaller zippered pouch or wallet as a matching set. TUES. 6/4 9AM-12PM THROW PILLOWS
Sewing Foundation week is all about getting better acquainted with the sewing machine & the layout & construction process. Campers will begin to learn about shapes as patterns & draft their own, focusing on squares & rectangles. Sew 2 throw pillows for your bed, sofa, floor, the sky’s the limit! Include custom details such as tassels, a hidden pocket, trims, etc. TEXITLE: Cotton, Canvas, decorative trims
WED. 6/5 9AM-12PM SHORT-SLEEVED TOP
Campers will sew a simple shirt & begin to put the shapes & puzzle pieces together. Patterns are basically templates such as circles, squares, rectangles & more. We will design & sew a short-sleeved top with beginner & intermediate machine functions. The best part? Learning how to add custom elements such as a v or crew neckline, fitted or puffy sleeves, pockets & other design fun elements. TEXTILE: Cotton, Knits, Polyester
THURS. 6/6 9AM-12PM SKIRT OR SHORTS
Skirts & shorts are actually really fun & easy to sew. Compared to a shirt w/sleeves, it’s a cinch! Campers will sketch & design a skirt or opt for shorts. We will learn about different types of skirts - mini, midi, maxi, etc. Time permitting, campers may sew an additional pair of shorts/skirts for extra practice. Fit, function & measurements will be a key component to today’s lesson. Thinking critically & practicing with textile properties will expand their skills to the next level.

All day campers may sew a second set in different textiles/designs or sew slumber party essentials (pillow case bag, eye mask, pouch, small stuffed animal, etc.) in the afternoon sessions. All supplies included & no experience necessary. Lunch will be 12pm-1pm please pack a lunch, water bottle & wear layered comfortable clothing. We will show a classic movie. Week 2 is focused on hand sewing with an embroidery hoop & machine embroidery stitches to create florals, motifs, hearts, polka dots, ART! Students will learn EMBROIDERY 101 & basic decorative stitches. We will continue to learn sewing machine basics as well as dabble with intermediate stitches & sewing techniques. We will design and sew a sleeveless top & add our own embroidery art. GOALS: build hand/eye coordination, patience & a new love of slowing down with needle & thread.

Accessories can include a scarf (for you or your bag), a scrunchie, a belt, head bands & sew much more. Handbags are wonderful to sew because it goes back to the basics - shapes, geometry, straight stitches, reinforced zigzag stitches, etc. Today’s project is a lined zippered pouch. Sew one or more - pouches are perfect as gifts, to sell & to store all your art, sewing, school, makeup & miscellaneous supplies & treasures.

It is functional, in style & perfect for on-the-go campers!

Design & sew your own “luggage” with sturdy textiles & reinforced handles. Carry your Duffle on road trips, overnight sleepovers, all-day sports & activities, or use it to store FABRIC!

Week 3 is all about Handbag Design & accessories! Campers will sketch & sew a bag each day along with matching accessories. Handbags are wonderful to sew because it goes back to the basics - shapes, geometry, straight stitches, reinforced zigzag stitches, etc. Fashion Backpacks are smaller yet equally functional as a school backpack. Design & sew a small to medium-sized backpack with grommets, handles & interior/exterior pockets. Campers will begin to see that “fancy” sewing projects aren’t necessarily difficult - it just requires 3D critical thinking & solving fun puzzles!

By the end of the week, all these handmade pieces can be worn separately or together, just in time for July festivities!

Textile Design week is one of our most popular weeks! Campers will spend half of the time learning surface design techniques; the other half sewing (or vice versa). We will have different prompts & themes each day. By the end of the week, campers will have an array of tools & techniques under their belts to create their own textile designs: plant dyes, surface painting, shibori tie-dye, stamping, stenciling & sew much more. We will begin the week by sewing a book-sized bag to get our creativity flowing!
TUES. 7/2 9AM-12PM SEW & PAINT A SHIRT (shibori tie-dye)

Campers will travel through the decades by learning about what life was like in each era: societal norms, current events, textiles & more. Feel free to dress up/down in your own interpretation of each decade (and have fun with it!). Today’s camp is our all-time favorite: vintage Victorian. Think puffy sleeves, lace, blouses, a romantic aesthetic and/or the exact opposite: dark romantic gothic vibes. You are the artist & designer! Design & sew a garment (piece) from this magical historical era.

It’s time to learn about Costume & Fashion History using our imagination & creativity! Campers will travel through the decades by learning about what life was like in each era: societal norms, current events, textiles & more. Think floppy hats, floral motifs, bell bottoms, pointy-collared shirts, flowy fairy dresses. Design & sew a garment inspired by the 1970’s.

It’s time to learn about Costume & Fashion History using our imagination & creativity! Y2K or the Year 2000 is all the rage, especially during the Summer. Y2K includes futuristic, glossy textiles & over-the-top designs as well as the opposite: understated, sportswear, casual denim, halters, affordability, comfort & sew much more. Sew & design a garment that captures your Y2K aesthetic.

In today’s camp, we will design & sew a sweatshirt catered to your individual style. Make it sporty, loungey, comfortable with a hoodie or make it fashion-forward. Design a collar, gigantic sleeves, bell sleeves, the sky’s the limit! You ARE the Fashion Designer, after all.

Fall fashion is right around the corner. Get a head start on planning your year & Fall wardrobe - handmade by YOU! Campers will design & sew cool basics such as sweatshirts, leggings, knit tunic sweaters, a denim jacket & sew much more. In today’s camp, we will design & sew a pair of leggings or pants. We will utilize knit textiles for extra comfort & durability. Design a pair of leggings with an attached mini-skirt or make it flared at the knee/ankle. Fashion design is full of endless possibilities, catered to your unique style!

Campers will design & sew cool basics such as sweatshirts, leggings, knit tunic sweaters, a denim jacket & sew much more. In today’s camp, we will design & sew a longer length knit tunic sweater or sweater dress. A tunic is slim, comfortable & can be worn with leggings or as.a belted dress (with your other handmade designs this week). Again, campers will be able to design & customize the tunic of their dreams.

Denim is one of the most versatile textiles to sew. It can be dressed up or down but one thing’s for sure: it is a timeless class & will never go out of style. Take your time adding details such as buttons, hardware, collars, pockets - this IS a work of wearable art!

You get to be the Historian AND the Fashion/Costume Designer in this fun & educational camp.

We saved the best for last! Costumes are an important part of everyday life. Anything & everything we wear can be defined as a costume. Campers will learn about Costume culture, modern-day elements of art & design, and important dates/eras/cultures relating to their unique costume. We will discuss the origins of Anime, its popularity around the world & its vibrant inspiration from Japanese culture. Design & sew a garment/piece with anime elements. You get to be the anime character AND Fashion/Costume Designer in this fun & educational camp.

We saved the best for last! Costumes are an important part of everyday life. Anything & everything we wear can be defined as a costume. Campers will learn about Costume culture, modern & historical elements of art & design, and important dates/eras/cultures relating to their unique costume inspiration. We will discuss the significance of character development in books & movies, its popularity in fiction, non-fiction, sci-fi, etc. You get to be the Hollywood Costume Designer in this fun & educational camp! Design & sew a garment inspired by your favorite book or movie.

Campers will learn about Costume culture, modern & historical elements of art & design, and important dates/eras/cultures relating to their unique costume inspiration. Halloween is right around the corner; get a head start on your Halloween costume (psst…any of this week’s camp projects can be a Halloween costume!). If you don’t know yet, no worries. Today is all about finding inspiration, creating a pattern, practicing with different textiles & more. It will definitely give campers the foundation, confidence & skills to create ANY future Halloween costume.

The last week of Summer Fashion Camp is all about slowing down, learning new fiber-related techniques that are fun, educational & perfect for the upcoming Fall & Winter months. We will discuss the importance of fibers in textiles. After all, it is the basic building block of all fashion. In today’s camp we will learn hand sewing basics as well as embroidery stitches utilizing a hoop & embroidery thread. The last week of Summer Fashion Camp is all about slowing down, learning new fiber-related techniques that are fun, educational & perfect for the upcoming Fall & Winter months. We will discuss the importance of fibers in textiles. After all, it is the basic building block of all fashion. In today’s camp we will learn all about weaving & creating a textile from scratch. Campers will experiment & weave with different types of fibers: yarns, textile scraps, plastic bags & more. Weaving is both mindful yet mindless, allowing our nervous system to slow down, rest, heal & thrive.
WED. 7/31 9AM-12PM CROCHET

Create your own designs by experimenting with different crochet needles & interlocking loops. A repetitive, relaxing & enjoyable craft that lasts a lifetime.
THURS. 8/1 9AM-12PM KNITTING

We will discuss the importance of fibers in textiles. After all, it is the basic building block of all fashion. In today’s camp we will learn how to knit with different types of knitting needles. Campers will create a swatch; the only is to practice working with new tools/needles, the act of interlocking yarns, the tension & the overall movements. It is not about perfection but about the repetitive motions that in turn relax our minds & thought processes. All supplies included & no experience necessary.

FASHION DESIGN - Design & Sew with Fiber Arts
CHOOSE 9AM-12PM, 1PM-4PM OR ALL DAY 9AM-4PM (PLEASE PACK WATER BOTTLE/LUNCH 12PM-1PM)
Let’s put all our weekly skills together in this fun camp day. Students will sketch, make inspiration mood boards, collect swatches & sew their head-to-toe fashion design. All day campers may sew a second set in different textiles/designs or sew slumber party essentials (pillow case, eye mask, bag, small stuffed animal, etc.) in the afternoon sessions. All supplies included & no experience necessary. Lunch will be 12pm-1pm please pack a lunch, water bottle & wear layered comfortable clothing. We will show a classic movie. Please bring anything & everything for all day campers to make their day comfortable. TEXTILE: All
