Fashion lovers, don’t miss the opening this Saturday ◆ “Little Black Dress at 100” at the Wichita Art Museum ◆ In honor of the upcoming 100th anniversary of Coco Chanel’s groundbreaking little black dress, WAM presents an exhibition that traces how this iconic garment—affectionately known as the LBD—has evolved over the past century. The color black forces designers to concentrate on line, texture, and cut, and to be especially attuned to how fabric drapes over the body. At the same time, the little black dress offers a blank canvas—adaptable, enduring, and endlessly reinterpreted through shifting styles and cultural moments. ◆ This exhibition features LBDs drawn from the collections of the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum and the K-State Historic Costume and Textile Museum. From high-end designer pieces to affordable, everyday versions, every dress on view was worn by a Kansas woman. Including a 1950s Coco Chanel cocktail dress from the Texas Fashion Collection (thank you, Annette Becker!) and a recreation of the original LBD in Vogue from 1926, and a contemporary LBD made by Nina Winter of TISSU Sewing Studio ◆ “Little Black Dress at 100” opens this Saturday ◆ FREE Admission ◆

WHY: Textile artist/sewist Heather Byer's "100 Faces" portrays intimate faces, expressions & relationships representing the global community we live in.
Her attention to detail is profound & astonishing, capturing expressive details such as creases, wrinkles & smiles with simple brushstrokes & carefree dots. Heather works primarily with acrylic, ink & fabric remnants.
